MOGADISHU, Somalia – A soldier shot dead two youngsters in their 20s on the outskirts of Bal’ad town, which lies around 30 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
The incident sent a wave of shock through the residents who were in panic over the gruesome murder of the two villagers, who lost their lives for saving a girl from a rape.
The security forces reached the scene of the crime and managed to successfully detain the soldier, who was part of thousands of troops trained in Eritrea and returned to Somalia.
An investigation was launched and the police said the perpetrator will be arraigned in court.
Such incidents are increasing in Somalia, where multiple couple murder and rape have been taking place in the past few years due to lack of security and accountability.
