MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Finance Minister has announced that the United States has suspended its financial support for the Danab commandos, a key force in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
In a speech delivered to the Somali Parliament today, Minister Bihi Egeh stated that this decision will have a negative impact on the country’s financial situation. He also warned that the suspension of this support could worsen Somalia’s existing financial challenges.
Egeh emphasized the critical importance of finding alternative sources of support to continue the fight against Al-Shabaab and maintain national security.
The suspension of U.S. support comes at a time when Somalia urgently needs to strengthen efforts against both Al-Shabaab and ISIS. The financial strain could further exacerbate the country’s difficulties if alternative solutions are not found.
Somalia remains in a challenging financial situation, and cooperation along with comprehensive solutions are needed to reinforce both the nation’s security and economic stability.
