UN and Denmark Boost Somalia’s Peace Efforts in Mogadishu Talks

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a bid to fortify Somalia’s journey towards peace and stability, Acting UN Special Representative James Swan engaged in a strategic dialogue with Danish Ambassador Steen Sonne Andersen in Mogadishu on August 16, 2024.

 

The meeting, which underscores the ongoing efforts to foster international cooperation, delved into the complexities of Somalia’s peace-building process.

Both representatives highlighted the critical role of international support in navigating Somalia through its challenges towards self-sufficiency.

Swan and Andersen reiterated their countries’ commitment to Somalia, emphasizing the necessity of long-term international engagement.

The talks focused on the importance of security sector reform, governance improvements, and the rule of law as fundamental to achieving lasting peace.

Economic development was another focal point, with both parties advocating for investments in critical sectors like infrastructure, education, and healthcare to ensure sustainable peace.
