MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s armed forces, supported by the United States military, have killed 10 Al-Shabaab members in a joint operation in the Middle Juba region.
A press release from the Ministry of Information of Somalia said that the operation targeted members of Al-Shabaab who were gathering at the border between the regions of Middle Jubba and Lower Jubba.
“The SNA and their US-allied forces foiled the conspiracy of Al-Shabaab for an attack in the successful operation,” added the statement, obtained by Shabelle Media Network.
The statement further said that no civilians were harmed.
On the 17th of this month, a joint operation in Jilib, the Middle Jubba region killed a senior leader of the Al-Shabaab identified as Khalif Daud, known as Moalim Ayman in the group.
The halt of drone strikes for months gave the Al-Shabaab a chance to adapt and regroup, resulting in a surge in attacks in both urban and rural areas due to a gap in operations.
