BOSASO [SMN] – The U.S. Africa Command AFRICOM targeted ISIS (Daesh) militants in airstrikes within the Caal-miskaad mountain range in the Bari region, part of the Puntland administration.
The successful airstrike operation, carried out by U.S. forces in collaboration with Puntland troops, took place on the 22nd of February. It supported ongoing ground operations against ISIS in the region.
Preliminary assessments of the operation indicate that three ISIS members were killed in the airstrikes, with no civilian casualties reported, according to a statement from the Puntland military command.
In addition, the Somali Federal Government, in coordination with AFRICOM forces, thwarted an Al-Shabaab attack planned on military bases in the outskirts of Bula-Burde, Hiraan region.
The U.S. has conducted several airstrikes in Somalia, with recent operations ordered by former President Trump resulting in the deaths of 14 militants, including a senior ISIS leader believed to be planning attacks against the U.S. and Europe.
This strike targeted a facility in the Calmiskaad mountains.
