The airstrike was carried out at the request of the Somali government in support of its SNA forces during their fight against the Al-Shabaab group.

AFRICOM stated that the initial assessment indicated that 5 members of Al-Shabaab were killed, and no civilians were injured or killed.

The statement said that the US military is taking great measures to prevent harm to civilians, as several times in the past, human rights organizations have said that civilians have been harmed by the US airstrikes in Somalia.
