Bosaso, Somalia – U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) carried out a collective self-defense airstrike against ISIS-Somalia on April 1, 2025, at the request of the Federal Government of Somalia. The strike took place southeast of Bosaso in Puntland, Northeastern Somalia, and targeted ISIS-Somalia militants.

AFRICOM’s initial assessment reports that multiple ISIS combatants were killed in the operation, and no civilians were injured or killed.

The airstrike comes as part of ongoing efforts to degrade the threat posed by ISIS-Somalia, a group that has demonstrated both the will and the capability to carry out attacks against U.S. and partner forces in the region.

The attack underscores the continuing security challenges posed by ISIS-Somalia, whose activities have been deemed a direct threat to U.S. national security interests.

In collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, AFRICOM remains committed to neutralizing ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and execute operations targeting U.S. forces and civilians abroad.

The U.S. military and Somali forces are intensifying efforts to disrupt the group’s operations and ensure regional security.
