US, UK slam killing of Somali TV director in Mogadishu bombing

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The US and UK missions in Somalia have condemned the attack that took place in Mogadishu that killed journalist A/fitah Macalin Nur ‘Qays’.

 

Qays who was the director of Somali Cable TV’s office in Mogadishu, was one of several people who died in a suicide bombing that took place last night in the Bondheere district of Banadir region.

“I am very saddened by the attack that took place in Mogadishu that took the life of journalist A/fitah Moalim Nur ‘Qays’. Our condolences to his family. We condemn this barbaric act, said a brief statement from the US Embassy in Mogadishu.

The US Embassy in Mogadishu also said it stands by the Somali people who are determined to find peace, justice, and prosperity for the country.

Also, the United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission in Mogadishu has strongly slammed the TV director’s murder.

“We are saddened by the tragic death of Abdifatah Moallim Nur (Qays) & condemn this act of violence. His passing is a testament to the sheer bravery of Somali journalists. Our thoughts are with Abdifatah’s family, the journalist community, and the Somali people,” said the statement in X post.

The Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the explosion that killed journalist Abdifitah Qays, which was held today in a mass funeral in Mogadishu.
