MOGADISHU, May 10, 2025 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday received SSC-Khaatumo State President Cabdiqaadir Ahmed Aw-Ali in Mogadishu for high-level talks focused on governance, security, and national reconciliation.
The meeting, held at Villa Somalia, marked the first official working visit by the SSC-Khaatumo leader since the region intensified efforts to formalize its administrative status within the federal framework.
According to a statement from the presidency, the two sides discussed ongoing development initiatives, peacebuilding efforts, and the challenges facing state-building in SSC-Khaatumo, a region in northern Somalia that has seen rising political attention in recent months.
President Aw-Cali provided an update on progress made within his administration, emphasizing the region’s commitment to inclusive governance, security stabilization, and social cohesion.
He also expressed appreciation to President Mohamud for extending an invitation to participate in the National Consultative Council (NCC), a forum that brings together the federal government and member states to deliberate on key national issues, including elections, security, and constitutional reforms.
President Aw-Cali acknowledged the Federal Government’s support in institutional development, noting that the cooperation had contributed significantly to administrative capacity-building and the delivery of essential public services in the region.
The SSC-Khaatumo leader praised the role of the federal government in safeguarding Somalia’s territorial integrity and promoting dialogue among stakeholders, saying his administration remained committed to contributing constructively to Somalia’s unity and long-term stability.
The meeting comes amid broader federal efforts to engage regional administrations and consolidate gains made in governance and security across the country.
