AU, Somali troops deal a blow to Al-Shabaab as they retake key town

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The African Union forces along with Somali National Army [SNA] soldiers and local Ma’awisely fighters drove out Al-Shabaab militants from a key base.

 

ATMIS said after days of intense ground combat backed by heavy weaponry, the allied forces captured Cali Fooldheere from Al-Shabaab in the latest victory of the current war.

The Force Commander of ATMIS, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, commended the troops’ bravery, noting the forest’s strategic importance for terrorist attacks and concealed ammunition, including Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).

Cali Fooldheere Forest in the Middle Shabelle region is now free from Al-Shabaab, and this is a sign that the ongoing military operation is yielding fruits, thanks to the AU forces for their gigantic role.

Officials of the Federal Government forces in the Ali Fooldhere area said that they have destroyed bases, where Al-Shabaab used to organize and plan its attacks in the region.

In the Middle Shabelle region, there are operations against Al-Shabaab, especially in the forest areas, where the militants are said to have been gathering in the past few weeks.

ATMIS in cooperation with the Federal Soldiers has achieved important successes in the war on Al-Shabaab and they promised to continue the offensive until the country is fully liberated.
