MOGADISHU, Somalia – A deafening explosion shook Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Monday night amidst tight security measures in place, including car checks at checkpoints.
A huge blast occurred at the Bakara Market that was caused by a remote-controlled landmine that was attached to a business center, according to the police and witnesses.
The reports indicated that the shop was targeted after complying with a new government directive to install a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera amid the Al-Shabaab ban.
The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab warned local businesses in Mogadishu not to install the CCTV and anyone who refuses to heed the order will become the prime target of the IEDs.
The capital’s security has been improving since the election of Hassan Sheikh in May 2022, thanks to paramilitary forces trained in Uganda, who are in full charge of the stability.
Also, NISA, the country’s spy agency is credited for the security after deploying plain-clothed agents across the seaside city who are hunting down the Al-Shabaab assassins.
