Somali president names ex-chief of staff as his advisor on constitution

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed former Director of Villa Somalia Hussein Sheikh Mohamud to be the President’s Advisor on Constitutional Affairs.

 

A circular issued by Villa Somalia said: “The President of the Federal Republic appointed Hussein Sheikh to be the Presidential Adviser on Constitutional Affairs, from today.”

The advisor will face one of the main challenges of Somalia as the constitution has been at the epicentre of the political disputes in the country for nearly 20 years.

It is not known if the advisor threw out his political ambitions in the leadership of the South West that he has given up at the moment, Hussein was one of the coalition of candidates for the South West presidency who faced President Hassan Sheikh several times.

On June 8, 2022, the president named Abdirahman Abdullahi Badiyow one of the Somali intellectuals to his post, he assigned today to his former chief of staff and close friend.
