Al-Shabaab Commander surrenders in Somalia

BAIDOA, Somalia  –   A senior Al-Shabaab Commander has ditched his group and defected to Somali military in the latest defection amid war.

 

Mohamed Najib who has been a member of Al-Shabaab participated in several battles in Lamu and Mandera Counties in Kenya, according to the army.

Najib made contacts with the military officials and told them that he wants to surrender and start new peaceful life.

Mohamed was trained in Sakow town in Middle Jubba region which is entirely under Al-Shabaab control.

The Commander encouraged his fellow militants to follow his suit and give themselves up to somali government in order to go back to normal and nonviolent life.

Somali government is currently at war with Al-Shabaab and aims to bring an end to the long insurgency in the country with US and other partners support.
