MOGADISHU, Somalia – The National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] released a statement Today on the latest operation against Al-Shabaab in the Horn of Africa nation.

The statement confirmed over 30 Al-Shabaab members have been killed in the offensive involving foreign forces thought to be the US military, which has troops in Somalia.

The operation was conducted in the areas of Baghdad and Baldooska under the Afgoye district of the Lower Shabelle region, about 30 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu.

“At least 24 militants were killed in the operation in Baldooska, while the other 15 were killed in an attack in Baghdad. The wounded fighters were taken to Farsoolay and Buulo Fulay,” said NISA.

Somali army along with local clan militia cleared Al-Shabaab from several areas located south of Mogadishu, along the coast that leads to the town of Marka, Lower Shabelle.

The government of Somalia vowed to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the entire country with the support of US and local clan fighters, who played a gigantic role in the current war.

Launched in August 2022, the federal government of Somalia’s offensive against al-Shabaab was initially followed by much optimism.

Unlike previous offensives, which were often foreign-led, the Somali National Army (SNA) was taking a leading role in fighting al-Shabaab.
