Somalia Rejects Talks with Ethiopia Over Controversial MoU

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia has firmly stated that it will not engage in dialogue with Ethiopia regarding the controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and the self-declared region of Somaliland.

 

This decision was announced in response to a communiqué from the G7 expressing concerns over the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which Somalia considers a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Somalia has indicated a strong commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability and expressed its willingness to collaborate with the G7 and other international partners.

However, the government has made it clear that there will be no dialogue with Ethiopia on this matter until Ethiopia revokes the Memorandum of Understanding and reaffirms Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This stance by Somalia reflects its ongoing dispute with Ethiopia over the agreement with Somaliland, which, according to Somalia, undermines its unity and territorial integrity.
