MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a welcoming ruling, the Benadir Regional Court of Appeal has acquitted two former directors of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali and Mohamed Adde Mukhtar, of corruption charges.
Chairperson of the Court, Said Ali Mohamed, announced that the court found no evidence of guilt against the two ex-General Directors and ordered their immediate release.
The court’s decision comes after the two men had been in prison for the past two years following their arrest in connection with corruption activities within the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The court’s decision to acquit the two former directors was based on a thorough review of the evidence presented during the trial.
In contrast, the court sentenced Abdiwahid Muhsin Ibrahim, an official from the Immigration agency, to three years in prison. This decision was made after the court found sufficient evidence to support the corruption charges against him.
This ruling follows a similar decision made by the Benadir Regional Court a week earlier, in which the court released officials from the Immigration agency after finding them not guilty of corruption charges.
The Benadir Regional Court of Appeal’s recent rulings demonstrates the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served. The court’s decisions to acquit the former directors and sentence the official from the Immigration agency reflect the court’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of the government and its institutions.
As the judicial system continues to address corruption cases, it is essential for the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. By working together, the government and its citizens can help combat corruption and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
