JUBALAND, Somalia — Jubaland authorities on Monday reported that federal and regional forces had successfully repelled three coordinated attacks by al-Shabaab militants on newly captured areas west and south of Kismayo.

The attacks occurred early Monday at Harbole and the nearby Mido village, as well as Bulo Haji town base, according to officials. The militants were defeated in all three battles, the officials said.

Photos purporting to show dead al-Shabaab militants and weapons seized by government forces have been circulating on social media.

Al-Shabaab confirmed the three raids and claimed to have “overrun” the bases, but Jubaland authorities said their forces had successfully defended the territories.

The attacks come 12 days after Jubaland forces captured Harbole, Mido village, and Bulo Haji town base from al-Shabaab militants. The coordinated nature of the attacks suggests a strategic response by al-Shabaab to regain control of the territories.

Jubaland authorities have not released any official casualty figures, but the photos on social media indicate that the militants suffered significant losses.

The government forces’ success in repelling the attacks demonstrates their resilience and determination to maintain control over the newly captured areas.

The situation remains fluid, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
