MOGADISHU, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia hosted a dinner meeting with the Chairman and members of the Federal Parliament last night, signaling a push for national cohesion and legislative cooperation.
The Villa Somalia gathering was also attended by Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, his deputies, and leaders from several regional states, including Galmudug’s Ahmed Abdi Kariye, Southwest’s Abdicasis Hassan Mohamed, and Hirshabelle’s Ali Gudlawe Hussein. The presence of state leaders underscored the meeting’s significance in fostering unity across Somalia’s federal structure.
President Mohamud praised the regional leaders for their participation in a National Discussion Forum aimed at addressing critical issues including security, military reconstruction, and democratic governance. He emphasized the need for dialogue and consensus, particularly with those holding differing views, to achieve national goals.
“We are talking to our brothers who have a different perspective; If they allow us, I will go, if not, they will come to us. I want togetherness and unity,” Mohamud stated, highlighting his commitment to inclusivity and national reconciliation.
The President also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Federal Parliament, noting their past contributions to drafting the constitution and defending Somalia’s unity. He expressed optimism about future legislative sessions working towards the aspirations of the Somali people.
This meeting comes at a crucial time for Somalia, as it continues to face challenges from insecurity and seeks to strengthen its governance structures. President Mohamud’s initiative reflects a broader strategy to involve all stakeholders in steering the country towards stability and development.
