MOGADISHU, Somalia — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has successfully apprehended two operatives linked to the Al-Shabaab in separate operations, the agency confirmed today.
Keyse Farah Hassan, identified as a medical doctor, was captured in the Jilib district where he allegedly provided treatment to Al-Shabaab fighters. In a parallel operation in Mogadishu, Kooshin Mohamud Ahmed was arrested. Ahmed is accused of managing the care for wounded and sick Al-Shabaab members within the capital’s hospitals.
The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and disrupting terrorist activities, highlighting the effectiveness of its security forces in these latest arrests.
“These operations are a testament to the resolve of our security forces to dismantle terrorist networks within our borders,” stated an official from NISA, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the ongoing operations.
The government has called on all Somalis to stay alert and assist in the national effort against terrorism. “We must all play our part in ensuring Somalia moves towards lasting peace and security,” the official added.
The captures are part of a broader strategy by the Somali authorities to crack down on Al-Shabaab’s support structures, which include medical, logistical, and financial networks, crucial to the group’s operations.
These arrests come at a time when Somalia is pushing to consolidate its control over regions previously dominated by Al-Shabaab, with international support playing a significant role in enhancing local security capabilities.
