BELEDWEYNE, Somalia – Somali government forces, supported by local militias, successfully repelled attacks by the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab early this morning in Awdheegle, located in the Lower Shabelle region. Military activity has been reported in the area as fighting continued for several hours.
In a separate incident, Al-Shabaab launched another assault in the Buursha Sheekh area of the Middle Shabelle region, resulting in direct combat that lasted for hours. Eventually, the Somali forces were able to push back the militants.
Meanwhile, government forces conducted an operation in the Laba-Garas area of the Middle Shabelle region, where several Al-Shabaab fighters were killed, according to state media reports. The Somali military has reinforced its presence in the region to enhance security and stability.
The recent clashes and operations have highlighted the intensifying battle against Al-Shabaab in the Lower and Middle Shabelle regions.
The Ministry of Information described these developments as a sign of increasing efforts in the fight against the militant group, with local residents expressing full support for the military’s actions.
