MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least five people were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded late on Friday afternoon in the Cali Goley neighborhood of Kahda district in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, local sources said.
The blast targeted a group of young civilians and government security personnel who were present at the scene, according to residents who spoke to Shabelle Media.
Sources in Kahda confirmed that both men and women were among the injured, with some reportedly losing limbs due to the severity of the explosion.
The attack comes just days after a separate security incident in the same area, where an exchange of gunfire broke out between government troops amid suspicions and internal tensions, according to eyewitnesses.
These successive security incidents in Kahda follow recent administrative changes, including the replacement of the district commissioner and the police station commander.
A new police chief, Dhame Mohamed Ali – a former police commander in Afgooye, Lower Shabelle region – has since been appointed to the district.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating security situation in the district, calling for immediate intervention from authorities.
