MOGADISHU, May 29, 2025 — Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) convened a monthly meeting in Mogadishu to review the country’s ongoing humanitarian situation.

The session was co-chaired by SoDMA Chairman Mohamud Moaalin Abdulle and George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia.

The meeting brought together the head of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Somalia, technical experts from SoDMA, and representatives from both parties involved in humanitarian coordination.

Discussions focused on economic challenges affecting relief efforts, particularly the reduction in donor funding and the urgent need to reassess ongoing priority services and projects.

Both sides agreed on the importance of closely evaluating strategies to address these issues, emphasizing enhanced cooperation and coordination of humanitarian efforts across the country.

SoDMA reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to build a more effective humanitarian system capable of responding to Somalia’s complex emergencies.
