Mandera, Kenya, May 31 – The Vice President of Somalia’s Jubaland regional state, Mahmoud Sayid Aden, held high-level talks on Friday with Kenyan security officials in the border town of Mandera, focusing on cross-border security cooperation.

The meeting took place at a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) base and addressed recurring security incidents along the Somalia-Kenya border, with both sides committing to strengthening joint efforts to stabilize the region.

“We have agreed to enhance our collaboration to ensure lasting peace and stability for border communities,” said a Kenyan official, who requested anonymity.

The meeting also laid the groundwork for a larger cross-border summit set to take place in the coming weeks. That summit will focus on long-term peace initiatives and development strategies for communities living along the frontier.

In a related development, the movement of students across the border has resumed, following ongoing negotiations over the official reopening of key crossing points.

Both Jubaland and Kenyan authorities expressed a shared commitment to securing the border, improving bilateral relations, and supporting local populations in achieving peaceful coexistence.
