Gedo, Somalia – A senior police commander under the Jubaland state in Gedo region has been confirmed dead following a heavy attack early Monday morning on a Jubaland military base in the village of Tuulo Amiin, local sources and security officials said.

The operation, reportedly well-coordinated, was carried out by Somali federal forces led by Abdirashid Janan, the newly appointed head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) for the Gedo region.

Colonel Hussein Giif, the Jubaland police chief for Gedo, was killed during the fighting, according to multiple security sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. Jubaland authorities have not yet officially confirmed the death of the colonel.

Several Jubaland soldiers were also killed in the assault, while others sustained injuries. The Federal forces reportedly seized weapons and military vehicles from the base.

The incident underscores the ongoing tensions between Somali federal forces and regional troops in Gedo, a region that has long been a flashpoint in the power struggle between Mogadishu and the Kismayo-based Jubaland administration.

Further details remain scarce, and the Somali federal government has not issued a public statement regarding the operation.

More updates to follow.
