Somali Defence Minister meets outgoing US special operations commander

Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met on Tuesday with Colonel Ed Norris, the outgoing Commander of the US Joint Special Operations Task Force – East Africa (JSOTF-EA), to mark the end of his tenure.

 

During the meeting, Minister Fiqi thanked Colonel Norris for his close cooperation and unwavering support of the Somali National Army (SNA), particularly in the training and operational deployment of specialised units.

“The partnership with JSOTF-EA has played a critical role in strengthening our counter-terrorism capabilities and professionalising our forces,” Minister Fiqi said.

He also conveyed his best wishes to Colonel Norris in his future endeavours, praising his contribution to regional security and stability during his time in Somalia.

The United States remains a key security partner for Somalia, supporting operations against the al-Shabaab insurgency and assisting in military capacity building.
