LAS ANOD, Somalia, Aug 30 – The highly anticipated presidential and vice-presidential election for the North-East Administration of Somalia is set to begin shortly in the city of Laascaanood. With tight security measures in place, the city has been placed under a curfew as officials prepare for the vote.
As the election campaign enters its final hours, political competition is intensifying. Candidates are preparing to deliver speeches at the election hall, where the contest for the leadership positions is expected to be fierce.
A total of ten candidates are vying for the presidency and vice-presidency, with intense lobbying among the contenders. According to reliable sources, candidates have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to secure the support of members of the regional parliament in a bid to secure the votes they need.
Abdiqaadir Ahmed Ali Firdhiye, is widely regarded as one of the frontrunners in the presidential race. On the other hand, opposition candidates have agreed to unite their votes and support whichever one of them reaches the final round of voting, aiming to consolidate their influence and defeat Firdhiye if he makes it to the final stage.
