MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Aden, held a key meeting with the World Bank’s Country Manager for Somalia, Hideki Matsunaga, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry and the international financial institution.
The talks focused on progress made under the Badmaal Project, particularly in the areas of fisheries infrastructure development, legal and regulatory reforms in the sector, and empowerment of youth and women engaged in fisheries across the country.
Launched a year ago, the Badmaal Project has made tangible strides, with visible benefits for Somali fishing communities, according to the Ministry.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to revitalize Somalia’s blue economy and improve livelihoods along the coast.
Both officials agreed to continue and deepen the positive working relationship between the Ministry and the World Bank, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration in boosting the country’s fisheries sector and supporting coastal communities.
