Dhuusamareeb — Police forces in Somalia’s Galmudug state have arrested three men in connection with the brutal killing of an elderly woman and her three daughters near the Qaayib area of Galgaduud region, in what officials say was a clan-related attack.

The attack occurred last Thursday and has shocked communities across central Somalia. The victims were identified as Sahro Cartan Hirsi, an elderly mother, and her daughters:

  • Nuurto Ahmed Mahmoud
  • Xaawo Ahmed Mahmoud
  • Faa’iso Ahmed Mahmoud, who was reportedly underage.

Authorities say the killings were carried out in what appears to be a revenge attack tied to long-standing clan animosities. Local reports claim that members of the Saleebaan clan were responsible for the attack.

Galmudug Police Commander General Maalin, speaking to reporters, confirmed the arrest of three suspects while others remain at large.

“We have arrested three individuals connected to this horrific crime. Our security forces are pursuing the remaining suspects. Justice will be served,” he said.

The incident, described by officials and community leaders as “inhuman and deeply disturbing,” has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls to end clan-based violence in the region.

Security operations are ongoing, and police say all perpetrators will be brought before the courts as investigations continue.
