MOGADISHU — Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held separate phone talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, focusing on rising tensions across the Middle East, the Somali presidency said.
The leaders discussed the broader regional situation, particularly escalating military confrontations, and underscored the need to de-escalate tensions and intensify diplomatic efforts to safeguard regional security and stability.
Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s “firm position” in support of Qatar and Jordan following recent air strikes they reportedly faced from Iran, according to an official statement.
He also praised what he described as a unified Arab stance, stressing that any attack on the territory of “brotherly nations” constitutes a clear violation of international law and risks undermining peace and stability in the region.
The calls come amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict, as diplomatic efforts continue to contain the fallout from escalating hostilities.
