Mogadishu – The Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, officially opened a meeting of intelligence chiefs from member states of the East African Community (EAC), scheduled to run from April 29 to 30, 2026.
The meeting is focused on reviewing the security situation across East African countries and the wider region, with discussions centered on assessing existing threats and strengthening intelligence cooperation.
In his opening remarks, the commander addressed the security situation in Somalia and the broader region, underscoring the importance of enhanced intelligence sharing and coordination to counter evolving security challenges.
He also highlighted progress made in the reform and recovery of the Somali National Army, noting that such efforts are key to reinforcing national security.
The commander concluded by thanking the participating delegations and expressed hope that the meeting would yield practical outcomes to bolster regional stability.
