Addis Ababa – Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Bashir Mohamed Jama, delivered a key address at the SDG6 session of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 12th session (ARFSD12), focusing on the impact of climate change and access to clean water.
The minister said challenges including climate change, rapid urbanization and lack of financing have significantly undermined water security across Africa, posing a major obstacle to sustainable development.
He stressed the need to strengthen community resilience to cope with these growing risks, noting that access to clean water is directly linked to the ability of communities to adapt to climate change.
“Without enhanced cooperation and support, these risks could further weaken livelihoods and development,” he said.
The minister concluded by calling for increased international cooperation and investment to achieve SDG6, which aims to ensure universal access to safe and reliable water.
