MOGADISHU, Somalia — The British Embassy in Mogadishu has endorsed a call for national dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and opposition figures to resolve a deepening political impasse.
In a statement released by the UK Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, the embassy welcomed the government’s invitation to the Somali Future Council for consultative talks.
“During this critical period, dialogue is the best way to address national priorities, promote stability and support the interests of all Somalis,” Ambassador King said.
The endorsement comes as Somalia faces significant internal friction over its political direction. International partners have grown increasingly vocal in their support for Somali-led solutions to bridge the divide between the central government and opposition stakeholders.
The UK emphasized its role as a “partner and friend” to the East African nation, reaffirming its readiness to support local efforts to reach a consensus.
The Somali Future Council, an umbrella group for various political actors, has been a key party in the ongoing discussions regarding the country’s national fate.
While the government’s invitation has been widely praised by the diplomatic community, a formal acceptance from the Council’s leadership remains the next critical step in the process.
