MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 16 — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Saturday held talks with Yemen’s ambassador to Somalia, Fadil Ali Ahmed Al-Khanak, focusing on strengthening long-standing ties between the two countries, officials said.
The meeting in Mogadishu centered on enhancing cooperation in security, migration, anti-human trafficking efforts, trade and transport links, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
Barre said Somalia and Yemen share deep historical, diplomatic and social relations dating back decades, noting that both countries continue to work together on regional security, commercial exchanges, and maritime and air transport cooperation.
The prime minister also highlighted the importance of joint efforts to tackle irregular migration and human trafficking across the Gulf of Aden, an issue that has long affected communities on both sides.
Ambassador Al-Khanak thanked the Somali government for the reception and praised Somalia’s recent progress in development, security and democratic governance.
He said Yemen welcomed Somalia’s ongoing recovery and stabilization efforts, expressing support for closer bilateral cooperation between the neighboring nations.
