NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania, May 22, 2026 — Somalia’s new ambassador to Mauritania has officially presented his credentials to President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, marking the formal start of his diplomatic mission, Somali officials said.
The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, where Somalia’s ambassador Yusuf Ahmed Hassan handed over his letters of credence in a calm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting what officials described as longstanding ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to diplomatic sources.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, particularly in diplomatic, economic, and regional cooperation.
Somalia has been seeking to expand its diplomatic outreach across Africa and the Arab world as part of broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships.
