ANKARA, Turkey, May 22, 2026 — Somalia and Turkey have agreed to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure development, housing and urban planning, following high-level talks in Ankara, officials said.
Somalia’s Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing Ayuub Yusuf Ismail held discussions with Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in Ankara.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in road construction, modern housing projects, urban planning and quality assurance in construction, according to officials from both sides.
Turkish officials welcomed the Somali delegation and reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development and reconstruction efforts.
Ayuub Yusuf Ismail highlighted Somalia’s interest in benefiting from Turkey’s technical expertise, particularly in engineering and large-scale project management.
He also stressed the importance of training Somali engineers and technical staff to enhance their capacity in national reconstruction efforts.
Following the talks, the Somali minister visited several Turkish transport and infrastructure facilities, where he received briefings from officials of the country’s road authority on major ongoing projects.
He also inspected public-private partnership (PPP) road projects, where private companies finance infrastructure development and electronic toll systems are used for revenue collection.
The minister further visited a government vehicle maintenance facility, where he was briefed on modern fleet management and maintenance systems.
Both sides agreed to establish a joint technical committee to advance cooperation and accelerate future joint projects between the two ministries.
