MOGADISHU – The leader of Somalia’s South West State, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, widely known as Laftagareen, held talks in Mogadishu on Friday with the head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, focusing on worsening humanitarian conditions caused by drought and the threat of flooding.

According to a statement, the meeting at the South West State leader’s residence reviewed the overall situation in the regional state, with particular attention given to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Buur Hakaba district in Bay region, where residents are facing mounting hardships linked to prolonged dry conditions.

The two officials also discussed preparations for the upcoming humanitarian conference (CHF), which is scheduled to be held in Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State, aimed at coordinating relief efforts and mobilising support for vulnerable communities.

They further examined the potential impact of the climate phenomenon known as Super El Niño and the risk of flooding during the upcoming Deyr rainy season.
