MOGADISHU – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Saturday officially launched the 2026 national secondary school examinations, reaffirming his government’s commitment to education as a key pillar of national development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Mogadishu, Barre said the DanQaran government had made significant investments in the education sector and placed strong emphasis on securing the future of Somali students and strengthening learning at all levels.

He said the government’s national priorities and the National Transformation Plan (NTP) viewed improving the quality of education and modernising educational systems and legislation as central to Somalia’s development agenda.

“Education is not only the path to success, but also the foundation of modernization and the building of Somalia’s national capacity,” Barre said, adding that the importance of education was underscored by Islamic teachings in the Quran and Sunnah.

The prime minister encouraged students sitting for both middle and secondary school national examinations to strive for success and commended the efforts of the federal Ministry of Education, teachers and school administrators across the country.

Somalia has in recent years sought to expand access to education and reform its academic institutions as part of broader efforts to rebuild state institutions after decades of conflict and instability.
