ANKARA – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye held a telephone conversation to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, with talks focusing on trade, investment, defence cooperation and regional and international developments, Turkey’s presidency said.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, Erdogan said Ankara would continue efforts to increase trade volume between Turkey and Senegal, describing economic cooperation as a key pillar of the growing relationship between the two countries.
The Turkish leader highlighted the importance of expanding investment and promoting trade opportunities to support economic growth in both nations, while calling for new avenues to deepen commercial ties.
Erdogan also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the defence industry, saying Turkey was ready to further develop collaboration with Senegal in defence technology and training based on mutual benefits.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues and expressed commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and strategic cooperation between Ankara and Dakar.
The conversation reflects Turkey’s growing engagement in Africa, where it has expanded diplomatic, economic, investment and security ties in recent years. Senegal is considered one of Ankara’s key partners in West Africa as Turkey seeks to deepen its presence across the continent.
Relations between Turkey and Senegal have strengthened in recent years, with Ankara seeking greater economic and security cooperation with West African countries, while Dakar views Turkey as an important partner in infrastructure development, investment and defence capacity-building.
