A landmine blast hits a town in southern Somalia

JOWHAR [SMN] – A landmine blast took place in Jowhar, the provincial capital of the Middle Shabelle region in southern Somalia on Saturday morning.

The police said the IED struck a military vehicle packed with government troops. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

There was an immediate claim of responsibility for the attack which comes as HirShabelle state is preparing to begin the Lower House election in Jowhar shortly.

Al-Shabaab in the past carried out such attacks in the city, targeting lawmakers and regional officials.
