MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suicide bomb blast was reported in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Monday morning after weeks of relative calm, thanks to the army operations.
A witness said a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy, in northern Mogadishu, at around 08:25 on November 13, during the rush hour.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties. The base camp houses units of the Somali National Army. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of now.
Police cordoned off the scene following the blast and conducted an investigation into the incident. The security of Mogadishu has been improving since Hassan Sheikh’s reelection.
Al-Shabaab attacks on the capital city also include some attacks against selected hotels
and restaurants which are known to attract people associated with the government.
The militant group has not had an open presence in Mogadishu since its ouster in 2011.
However, the Al-Qaeda affiliate continues to carry out fatal attacks using car bombs.
