GURIEL, Somalia – Reports from the town of Guriel say that sporadic fighting is still going on in the town today between the federal government forces and Al-Shabaab militia.
The warring factions of Ahlu Sunna and Galmudug are still facing each other in the battle zones, and so far there is no sign of mediation between the two sides.
Today’s fighting entered its second day and reportedly resulted in casualties on both sides
At least 20 people were killed and more than 40 others were injured in the clashes, according to residents.
Meanwhile, sources said that Danab forces arrested two members of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a who were wounded in the fighting in Guri El and were brought to Galkayo for medical treatment.
Galkayo district administration in Galmudug, regional and military officials declined to comment on the arrest of Ahlu Sunna members wounded in the fighting in Guriel.
