MOGADISHU, Somalia – On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers in Somalia gave its approval to an agreement on oil and gas production.
The agreements were inked earlier this month by the Turkish and Somalian governments. The deal was presented to the Cabinet by Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Abdirisaaq Omar Mohamed, who emphasized how it may unlock the country’s natural wealth and spur economic progress.
A major clause in the approved agreement calls for Turkish assistance with Somalia’s oil production, exploration, and exploitation, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
Crucial revisions to the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Bill and the Regulation of Public Registration and National Identity were also passed during the session.
