Ethiopian National Defense Force chief of staff met with his counterpart of Somalia’s armed forces yesterday to discuss security cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

Ethiopian National Defense Forces Chief of Staff, General Berhanu Jula, held a meeting with Somali National Army Chief, General Odawa Yusuf Rageh, in Addis Ababa.

The two chief of Staff discussed ways to strengthen the security cooperation between the two countries,” the Somali military said in a statement issued after the meeting.

“Ethiopians are helping us in the fighting against al-Shabaab through their forces in Somalia serving under the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Their contribution is real in contrast to many other nations who promise to support Somalia but practically deliver nothing,” said General Odawa Yusuf Rageh.

Ethiopia’s National Defense Force Chief of Staff, General Birehanu Jula, reassured his counterpart from Somalia that Ethiopia’s help to Somalia will continue since Somalia’s peace is Ethiopia’s peace as well.

On Friday, Somalia’s army chief was in Turkey to take part in a military and defense exhibition and held talks with his Turkish counterpart General Yasar Guler. They discussed ways to strengthen support from Turkey’s military aid to the Somali national army, according to a report by Anadolu.
