Ethnic Tensions Running High in central Somalia over borehole drilling

DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – There is a tense situation in areas under Dhusamareb, the capital of the Galmudug, where yesterday witnessed a fight between two tribal militias.

 

The tension is especially high in Hananbuure, approximately 45 km from Dhusamareb, where the two rival clan militias clashed, causing casualties including death and injuries.

About 7 people from the warring parties have been confirmed dead and many more were injured in the fighting reported in the Hananbure area in the North of Dhusamareb.

The two tribal militias are still reported to be fighting each other in the area over a dispute about a water well. The local elders tried to intervene in the hostilities and silence the guns.

The latest reports from Hananbure state that there are also ongoing peace efforts by local intellectuals and Galmudug authorities who are working to separate the two tribal militias that are still in conflict in Hananbure.

The war also coincides with the fact that the Middle Shabelle region is undergoing a communal war that has caused huge losses including deaths, injuries, displacement, and burnt houses.
