MOGADISHU, Somalia – The former prime minister of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble has congratulated Somali people on country’s admission into East African Community (EAC) on Friday.
The ex-PM said: “I congratulate the Somali public at large on the official joining of EAC which is vital for the economic growth of Somalia and free movement of the people through East Africa borders,” said Roble.
The former premier termed the EAC joining as a historic move, thanking president Hassan Sheikh for his tireless efforts to ensure this victory.
Somalia became 8th member of the regional bloc after the member States approved its application during Friday’s 23re summit in Arusha, Tanzania.
The long chaotic country with almost 17 million population seeks to expand free trade across the East African region.
The entry of the EAC is expected to greatly boost the EAC bloc market to more than 300 million people, according to latest statistics.
