MOGADISHU [SMN] – The United States has said that registration fees for candidates and international donations are enough to hold Somalia’s parliamentary elections.
The United States welcomed the completion of the Upper House election yesterday and said it was time to call for a general election before the end of 2021.
Millions of dollars are being raised by the Somali government for the bicameral parliamentary elections, which, if carefully managed, can help fund the registration of candidates.
Somalia’s prime minister recently said the government would spend $ 26 million on elections, much of which the government expects from the international community.
The United States is the largest donor to Somalia, and in recent years there has been a decline in international support, following the collapse of the Coronavirus epidemic.
