MOGADISHU, Somalia [SMN] – Galmudug security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has announced his resignation due to renewed tensions with Ahlu Sunna.
Fiqi said in a statement that President Qoor Qoor and he did not agree on how to approach the issue of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a, which has recaptured key areas in the state this week.
“Today, I submitted my resignation to the President of Galmudug, as we did not agree on how to deal with ASWJ. He chose the path of war after getting with troops from Mogadishu,” said Fiqi.
His resignation comes amid increased tension in Galmudug after Ahlu Sunna took control of Guri’el and several key areas around the capital, Dhusamareb without a battle.
