MOGADISHU [SMN] – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed MP Abdirahman Abdishakur as the new special envoy to tackle the drought emergencies.
Mohamud said Abdirahman would be a volunteer for the job, as he is a Member of Parliament.
The leader of the Wadajir Party was one of the candidates in the May 15 presidential election. He lost to Hassan Sheikh, who was declared the winner of the race for the seat.
Parts of Somalia are currently experiencing a drought that has affected people and animals.
