NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan President William Ruto has appointed a high commissioner to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, a breakaway region in northern Somalia.
Abdiweli Muhamed Hussain will serve as the high commissioner working on the cooperation between Kenya and the region, which claimed unilateral secession from greater Somalia.
The relationship between the two sides has improved in recent years, although Somaliland has for a long time, barely 33 years without recognition from the world.
Kenya’s President William Ruto on Wednesday night reshuffled eight members of his cabinet, folding the Foreign Affairs docket to the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s office which is headed by Musalia Mudavadi.
