BARAWE [SMN] – Some reports from Barawe town in the lower Shabelle region confirm that a mortar shell landed in different parts of the town on Wednesday.
The shelling reportedly hit civilian neighborhoods, resulting in casualties.
At least four people were killed and 9 others injured in the mortar attack by Al-Shabaab, according to eyewitnesses.
The situation is now calm and there have been brief investigations by security forces operating there.
The attack comes as Barawe, the second constituency in the Southwest, has begun holding elections for Somalia’s lower house of parliament seats.
